Region & places
Lots of forest and an impressive bend – the area by the Saar. Rarely does a river set out to draw such an imposing loop. The surrounding area is a magnificent natural backdrop. Despite this impressive sight of the loop, it still remains something of an insider tip, far away from mass tourism. This is precisely what makes this tip on the south-western edge of Germany so charming.
Beyond its borders lie Luxembourg and France, and the landscape speaks its own language. Undulating plateaus alternate with woodlands of deep green, only to yield to the charming river valley. Just as the river Saar lends its name to the state, the loop does the same in this region. This spectacular sight is only interrupted by villages and small towns, which are always worth stopping off at for the good food and the sights to be enjoyed there. This is a place where you can hike to your heart’s content without any disturbances, where you can ride your bicycle or explore the area and get to know the people living here by car and motorcycle. Hosts and landlords run their establishments in an individualised manner, focus on the needs of the guests and do everything possible to leave nothing to be desired.
