What to expect:
Medium-difficulty hike at a high level. Trekking passages and flat stretches alternate. Due to the many ascents and descents on some stages, a good level of fitness is required. You will stay in hiker-friendly hotels / guesthouses / inns / youth hostels.
The hiking stages in detail:
Day: Arrival Perl
Day 2: Perl - (Eft-)Hellendorf (approx. 17.4 km)
The hiking trail leads through the wine village of Perl with its baroque garden, through the Hammelsberg nature reserve and past the Roman villa complex in Borg to Hellendorf.
Day 3: (Eft-)Hellendorf - Mettlach (approx. 17.1 km)
Via winding paths to the impressive view of the Saar loop from the Cloef viewpoint. From there over streams and rocks to the ceramic community of Mettlach.
Day 4: Mettlach - Losheim am See (approx. 23.1 km) Through the babbling Saarhölzbach valley and across wide mountain meadows to Britten. Through endless meadows to the ascent via the Rotenbach valley and to the idyllically situated Losheim lake.
Day 5: Losheim - Weiskirchen (approx. 16.3 km) Wonderful views and steep, stony ascents and descents through an impressive rocky landscape to the spa town of Weiskirchen.
Day 6: Weiskirchen - Grimburg (approx. 16.6 km) Through extensive forests, some of them primeval, to the mountain meadows of the Hochwaldalm. Then over the deeply incised Wadrill to the high-altitude castle of Grimburg.
Day 7: Grimburg - Kell am See (approx. 13.4 km) From the Wadrill valley to Keller Steg through dark Hunsrück forest up to the heights near Kell am See.
Day 8: Kell - Riveris (approx. 21 km) On the Knüppeldamm over the Weyrichsbruch spring moor with its unique moor flora and through the Osburg high forest. Then over the ridge near Bonerath with beautiful views and past the Riveris dam into the wine landscape of the Ruwer valley.
Day 9: Riveris - Trier (approx. 20 km) Enjoy the grand finale on the hike to Trier, the city with eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Porta Nigra, amphitheatre, Imperial Baths, Barbara Baths, cathedral, Church of Our Lady, basilica and Roman bridge.
