The municipality of Beckingen bears witness to an eventful history. According to excavations and burial mounds, it must have been inhabited as early as 1800 to 1200 BC and was part of the Teutonic Order in the Middle Ages with the seat of a commander, which also characterised the current municipal coat of arms. Due to various events in history, Beckingen was a border region characterised by frequently changing ownership, seizures, plundering and disputes with various landlords until the municipal and territorial reform in 1974.
In the last century, Beckingen was characterised above all by the screw works of the Karcher family dynasty, founded in 1869, as the largest employer in the Haustadter valley.
On this tour, we would like to invite you to visit the historically significant sites on this map on a short walk and learn about Beckingen's cultural and industrial history.
Not only will you be walking, but thanks to audiovisual information (sound and film recordings) you will also be able to gain background knowledge about the sights. All you need is a mobile phone to scan the QR codes.
