Off we go to Schmausemühle. Firstly we hike alongside the Baybachklamm Dream Loop by the stream and are impressed by the massive rocky outcrops. Very soon, narrow paths and roped climbing sections demand our full attention and no tendency to get dizzy. The Baybachklamm adventure leads us through glorious, untouched nature characterised by water and rocks. An impressive cave in slate rock is evidence of former mining and soon ancient, moss-covered walls are the forerunners for the famous Burg Waldeck, which rises a good 1 km above the path on the slope and is worth a visit. The route remains in the valley, always closely following the winding stream and provides the greatest joy with silence and hiking pleasure. Then the valley sides separate and, passing a mill, we reach the Murscher Eselsche Dream Loop. Now it gets strenuous because we have to climb the steep “Eselsche” ridge. But we are rewarded at the top with fantastic views into Baybachtal. After a brief wooded section we are welcomed by open ground and the view moves towards the Mosel and Eifel before reaching our destination of Morshausen.

Burg Waldeck
Burg Waldeck was used in the Middle Ages as the home castle of the Waldeckers. In the Palatinate War of Succession, Ganerbenburg was destroyed and replaced for the most part in the 18th century by a newly built summer château. Burg Waldeck became famous in the 20th century as the meeting place of the German youth movement and later the Nerother Wandervögel who now own the castle. In the 1960s, the Waldeck international festivals took place with appearances for example by Hans- Dieter Hüsch, Franz-Josef Degenhardt and Hannes Wader. Even now there are regular events and concerts on the castle site.
Morshausen
Morshausen stands out with its lovingly restored half-timbered houses: “Finke”, “Dinnes” and “Dommerscher” invite you to be amazed and the traditional well would look at home in Puszta, Hungary. St. Lambertus church and the old bakery, which now houses the Jakob-Kneip- Museum, are also worth a look. On the edge of the wood, a natural monument that nobody could miss welcomes one and all - the Jakob-Kneip oak. The imposing tree is around 700 years old and is over 6m in diameter. The Madonna in front of the tree was donated in 1951 by Morshausen poet Jakob Kneip.
Ausrüstung
The Saar-Hunsrück Climb is a natural path that is on soft forest floor, grass paths or alongside streams for 65% of its route. But this special quality can result in problems after long periods of rain, making parts of the route difficult to walk. We therefore recommend wearing sturdy shoes.
