The first part is impressive due to the phenomenal panoramic views towards the Eifel. Before descending into Ehrbachtal we can still enjoy a great view of the valley and Ehrenburg from the Middle Ages that is enthroned on top. Once we arrive below, we cross the small village of Ehrenburgertal and take a slow ascent to Ehrenburg from the Middle Ages, which is worth seeing as it has been completely retained; payment on entry. Beautiful paths take us into Ehrbachtal with its numerous old mills. Just behind Eckmühle, one of the most beautiful sections of the Saar-Hunsrück Climb starts with the wild romantic Ehrbachklamm. We experience a spectacular route along Ehrbach with narrow paths, stone steps, waterfalls, rock formations, bridges and sections protected with ropes. Before leaving Ehrbachtal, we pass a former slate mine from the Middle Ages to then ascend a small side valley via a winding path to Schöneck Castle. The ascent to the plateau near Windhausen is rewarded with several beautiful viewpoints into Ehrbachtal. From Windhausen, the path is flat, passing over agricultural land with numerous views of the destination Oppenhausen.

Ehrenburg
The strong castle is mentioned in documents for the first time in 1161. In 1688 it was mostly destroyed by French soldiers led by Louis XIV. It has been maintained, restored and rebuilt from private funds by a charity since 1993. Events take place regularly. The castle also offers food and accommodation options. Schloss Schöneck The castle was built around 1200 by Konrad von Boppard. It was referred to as a château for the first time in the 17th century. Frankfurt artist Wilhelm Steinhausen bought the château in 1910 and set up a family foundation there.
Wegbeschreibung
The tour starts at the northern end of Morshausen. From the starting point at Enger Weg, we first follow the country road for a short distance, then cross it and turn onto a field path that leads us along the edge of the forest to the northeast. On our way further, there are always open fields and shady parts of the forest until we reach the Ehrenburger Tal after a total of 4.5 km.
There we cross the Ehrbach stream and make a loop to Sonnenwinkel before climbing up to Ehrenburg Castle. After the visit, we descend again into the Ehrbach valley and follow the course of the stream past Linkemühle, Brandengrabenmühle, Eckmühle, Rauschenmühle and Daubisbergermühle to Schöneck Castle.
There we leave the forest and walk across adjacent fields to Windhausen, finally our path leads cross-country to Oppenhausen, today's stage destination.
Ausrüstung
The Saar-Hunsrück Climb is a natural path that is on soft forest floor, grass paths or alongside streams for 65% of its route. But this special quality can result in problems after long periods of rain, making parts of the route difficult to walk. We therefore recommend wearing sturdy shoes.

Der Saar-Hunsrück-Steig ist ein naturnaher Weg, der zu 65% über weichen Waldboden, über Graspfade oder entlang von Bachläufen geführt ist. Diese besondere Qualität kann nach längeren Regenperioden Teile des Wegs schwerer begehbar machen. Deshalb ist festes Schuhwerk unbedingt zu empfehlen.
