SZ-Aktion-Mein Lieblingsplatz - A perfect place for a soul massage
Christiane Herber's favourite place is in the heart of Merzig.
My favourite place is not far from my house," writes Christiane Herber from Merzig about her suggestion for our big SZ "My favourite place" campaign. And that's a good thing, she thinks: "If I want to switch off, there's no point in me having to go hiking. It's about coming down, I want to switch off."
And for a long time, she wasn't even aware that she could do this on her own doorstep: "I didn't know that you were allowed to walk through the parish garden of St Peter's." By chance, she then found her way to the 4000 square metre garden, which is closed in the winter months and not open again until April. But then a visit is definitely worthwhile, says Herber: "I made myself comfortable in a quiet corner. I saw the beautiful rose bushes, the wonderful scent of the roses and the peace and quiet. It was like a soul massage for me." After about half an hour, she went home again that day "like a newborn person". And since then, she has always enjoyed being a guest in the parish garden of St Peter's Church in Merzig, built in the 12th century and surrounded by a defiant sandstone wall, the oldest surviving Romanesque sacred building in Saarland.
