Mine
SZ -Aktion-Mein-Lieblingsplatz - Naivety and drive created a centre of attraction

The former mayor of Beckingen, Erhard Seger, suggests a very special and historic place for our big "My favourite place" campaign: the historic copper mine in his home town of Düppenweiler.
"It was in the autumn of 1986 when the crazy idea of turning the filled-in shafts and tunnels of the forgotten copper mine north of the Litermont into a visitor mine came up," writes Seger about his proposal. He continues: "With a good dose of naivety and just as much drive, a handful of idealists set to work a little later to realise the idea." However, the project only really gained momentum six years later when a sponsorship organisation was founded. According to Seger, this was all around three decades and more than a hundred thousand hours of voluntary work ago, and it also cost a lot of money.
But the result is impressive, says the former head of the town hall: "With funds from the federal government, the state, the district, the municipality and many private donors, a unique tourist attraction was created in a municipality that was not particularly rich in tourism-related locations at the time." Anyone who is afraid to "drive" into the exposed narrow underworld of the visitor mine with its impressive presentation can also get their fill of the above-ground reconstructions (shaft superstructures, punching plant, copper smelter and mine pyramid). Seger: "As one of the main protagonists, I never tire of visiting the copper mine to enjoy the beautiful ambience, to train with the miners in the Knappenstube or to take a walk with my wife Brunhilde to the Barbara Chapel to meditate for a few moments and then perhaps stop off at the Huthaus to round off the trip to my favourite place in style."
