One of my favourite places is the Fischerberg with the Fischerberghaus in the Wolferskopf nature reserve near Saarfels. This very special place, which is also known as the "Balcony of the Saarland", offers magnificent views and you can discover real natural treasures on hikes in the surrounding area. Designated dream loops attract numerous hikers, especially in the summer months when the wild orchids are in bloom. For me and many guests, this is a dream spot in the municipality. Luckily, the Fischerberghaus is open and invites you to linger after a hike.
From the Fischerberghaus, there is a view of the upper Saar valley as far as Völklingen, over the Limberg and Rehlingen with the Siersburg castle and as far as France and Bouzonville. On the other side, shortly after the Fischerberg, the view over the northern Saarland as far as the Schaumberg is unobstructed. The whole area has a lot more to offer in addition to the beautiful views, as hikes on the dream loops (Beckinger Saarblicke, Bietzerberger, Traumschleifchen Fischerberg) or the Panorama-Höhenweg lead through one of the oldest nature reserves in Saarland with unique flora and fauna. 450 plant species, including 30 orchid species and numerous wild roses, bloom here. The overlooked orchid is unique in Saarland, as a small spring swamp in the nature reserve is of national importance due to its occurrence. This orchid species has its only Saarland habitat here and is only found in two other federal states in Germany. The yellow-bellied toad has also been spotted here.
