Hochwaldalm Wadrill
The history of the Wadriller Jungviehalm, the only real mountain pasture in the Saarland, began after the Second World War. The aim was to give small farms without their own pastureland the opportunity to raise healthy young cattle on a cooperative pasture.
Beschreibung
The “Hochwald Grazing Cooperative” was founded in Wadrill in 1951.
On May 9, 1955, grazing operations began with the first cattle drive.
At the same time, the first alpine hut was built, in which a pasture keeper monitored the herd day and night.
In August 1990, the alpine hut burned down completely. The inauguration of the new natural log cabin was celebrated on June 15, 1995.
A kitchen extension was added in 2008. Although the importance of the Hochwaldalm for cattle rearing has declined in the meantime, the inn and the nearby hiking trails have turned the place into a popular excursion destination and rest stop.
