Right at the beginning of the trip, the Mettlach lock raises our ship from 156 to 167 meters above sea level. You now enter the nature reserve of the 7 km long Saar Loop. The river makes a 300° loop here, which it has carved into the rock over millions of years. The ruins of Montclair Castle are located on the wooded ridge within the Saar Loop. Our tour takes you through the entire Saar Loop to Dreisbach and back. In Dreisbach it is possible to get on and off the bus by prior arrangement.

From Mettlach, the river valley narrows - the rocks become more rugged. At Saarhölzbach you leave the Saarland and shortly afterwards pass the red rocks of the Düro hard sandstone works. This is followed by the small Saar bend near Hamm. We then reach the second-highest barrage in Germany at Serrig. You can explore the picturesque old town of Saarburg, with its romantic waterfall, numerous cafés and restaurants, on foot or by taking the Saar Valley Railway. Make the most of the 3-hour stay to enjoy the wide range of experiences on offer in Saarburg.
