Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz Centre for Informatics GmbH
Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz Centre for Computer Science was founded in 1990 to create a place for exchange between outstanding researchers in computer science and also for the transfer of knowledge to young scientists. Founded on the model of the Mathematical Research Institute Oberwolfach (MFO), which was already well-known at the time, a seminar programme similar to the model was soon established and quickly gained international recognition. The success of the centre is based not only on the concept of bringing together an international group of top researchers to discuss and exchange ideas, but also on the creation of an environment that promotes discourse and interaction. A scientific review and selection process by the Scientific Directorate together with the supportive work of our scientific staff ensure the quality of the seminar programme.
In the meantime, Schloss Dagstuhl has expanded its activities to include two additional focal points that fit perfectly with the centre's original goal of advancing computer science research through the transfer of knowledge between scientists. A publishing department was founded with the aim of establishing high-quality yet affordable open access publishing as the standard in computer science. Schloss Dagstuhl also ensures the operation and further development of the globally recognised, intensively used and free bibliography database dblp, which was originally set up by Michael Ley at the University of Trier.
The three areas of Schloss Dagstuhl - seminars, publishing house, dblp - support different forms of communication in computer science. They complement each other well and there are a number of synergies.
