Shovel cellar in Honzrath
Beschreibung
A multimedia sound and light show has been set up in one of the approximately 200-year-old rock cellars in Honzrath, which tells the story of this rock cellar in three phases:
The history of the cellar's origins around 200 years ago.Its original use as a storage cellar. Its use as an air raid shelter during the bombings at the end of 1944.
Between the Kathreinenkirmes (on the weekend of the Sunday of the Dead) and Christmas, the cellar is also given a special role as a "rock cellar crib".
The rock cellar is open to visitors from Easter to Epiphany. During the rest of the year, a climatic regeneration phase takes place. Although most of the cellars are privately owned, visitors can now tour them and learn more about their history via audio recordings. The most recent addition is a new door, which improves the visual impression of the cellar. This project was realized with a great deal of volunteer commitment - from creating barrier-free access to cleaning and demolition work to recording the sound and light show.
The regional budget project entitled "Purchase and restoration of a rock cellar to complement the Schaufelskeller ensemble" was submitted in 2022. After the Schaufelskeller was restored and its façade embellished, the contrasting decay of the neighboring cellar caught the eye. Thanks to support from the regional budget project, this cellar was also renovated.
