Beschreibung
The first mention of a church in Tettingen comes from the list of church property, the "Taxa generalis subsidiorum cleri Trevirensis", from 1330. The parish church, which was dedicated to Saint Remigius, was first documented in a visitation report of the Perl rural chapter in 1569. Due to its dilapidation, the church was replaced in 1680 by a new building on the same site.
In 1851, a new church was built on the road from Sinz to Perl on the outskirts of Tettingen. The plans for this church were drawn up by cathedral master builder Josef Weis from Trier.
During the Second World War, in 1944, the war front ran very close to the church. This led to artillery shells partially collapsing the church tower and destroying the roof, windows and interior. Remains of the tank barriers, the so-called hump line, can be seen south of the church, right next to a field path. The line of tank obstacles ran through the municipality of Perl from west to east and was intended to block the open areas between the forests for vehicles and tanks. A particularly well-preserved section of the hump line, over a kilometer long, was uncovered in Orscholz and made impressively accessible by the hump line path. In the years after the war, the completely destroyed church was rebuilt from 1946 onwards. At Pentecost 1947, the first Holy Mass after the war was celebrated in the makeshift interior. Further reconstruction took place in the period that followed until 1952.
A general renovation then took place from 1987 to 1988. Since 2016, another interior renovation with disabled access and redesign of the church surroundings has been carried out, including the renovation of the tower.
